Henry County will be auctioning off various assets from the former City of Mount Union.

The sale will take place at the former city maintenance building on June 8 at 10 a.m. Photos of the items for sale are posted on the Henry County website. The items include a Ford F350 truck, antique police badges, an antique safe from the Bank of Mount Union, and kitchen appliances. These assets were liquidated by the city council several months before the city was unincorporated. This sale is an effort to satisfy claims filed by the city development board, under the Iowa Economic Development Authority, against the former Mount Union residents. A sale of real estate property including the Eagle’s Landing Park and the utility shed property will be scheduled at a later date. It is unknown how much of the debt owed by former Mount Union residents will be paid from the proceeds of these sales, and the city development board could levy a tax against the residents if the debt is not paid in full this year. The county is holding an informational meeting at 6 p.m. this evening at the Community Building in Mount Union to bring residents up to date on all matters.
