The Highland soccer team will be on the pitch tonight in the first round of the class 1A substate tournament when they travel to Burlington, Notre Dame to battle the Nikes.

The Huskies enter tonight’s match with an overall record of 1-12. In their last match they were beaten 12-2 by the Washington Demons. On the season the Huskies are led by Caleb Brase with five goals. In goal, Tyler Striegel has made 104 saves, third most in the league.

Notre Dame comes into the night with an overall record of 12-6, they are ranked No. 11 in class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. In their last match they were beaten by Iowa City Regina, 7-0. On the season the Nikes are led by Jakob Anderson with 20 goals, third most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Sturgis Thornton has five assists to lead the team. In goal, Slater Gifford’s 23 saves are best on the team.

These two clubs met on April 11th with Notre Dame taking an 8-0 win. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. at Notre Dame High School.
