The Kalona Public Library welcomes readers of all ages to “Build a Better World” with them this summer during their summer reading program.

The program begins on June 12th and goes through the end of July with an activity scheduled every weekday for all ages. Youth Services Librarian Roxy Running talks about the program’s kick off event, “We’re doing a kickoff event about bicycle safety and we are encouraging everyone we can to ride their bikes to that event, and we’re planning to have some activities after the official program ends on that day.” A variety of programs are planned this summer, from animal safety with the Paws and More group to a performance from the Mid-Prairie High School Drama Department.

Running talks about the theme of this year’s summer reading program, “We do have a theme, it’s called ‘Build a Better World’, so we are going to try and highlight books that promote that theme, whether it’s actually constructing a building as a theme, or if it’s just ways to create a better world by planting a garden and noticing the beautiful things in nature.”

Registration for the Kalona summer reading program begins May 30 and ends June 9th. Running encourages anyone who wants to volunteer to contact the library as well.
