Winfield-Mt. Union’s Sophie Kongable and Lexee Hartsock take it to the course as they compete in day one of the class 1A state girls golf tournament in Marshalltown today.

The teammates appear to be playing their best golf at the right time as they shot season bests at regionals last week. The two qualified for the event as individuals by scoring in the top five at Keota. Kongable posted a medalist runner-up finish by shooting a round of 86 and Hartsock got fourth with a 90. The pair has been a consistent force for the Wolves all season as each finished in the top three in season average for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division.

Twenty members will compete for the crown in the two-day event with the top eight receiving medals. Kongable and Hartsock will be right in the mix as they posted two of the best five rounds in all of the regionals.

The tournament gets started at 9 a.m. this morning at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
