The door was closing on the Mid-Prairie baseball team Tuesday night in Lowden as North Cedar held a 5-2 lead going to the seventh with their fireballing closer on the mound.

The Mid-Prairie offense came up with one last gasp, tying the game with three in the seventh to force extra innings, and winning it with four more in the eighth by a 9-5 final. North Cedar controlled the game during regulation, scoring three times in the third inning to go up 3-0. The Knights would make it 4-0 with another tally in the fourth. The Golden Hawks got on the board in the fifth when Braeden Nielsen doubled to drive in Eli Steckley cutting the North Cedar lead to 4-1. In the top of the sixth the Hawks cut it to 4-2 when Collin Gingerich singled to drive in Karson Gingerich. The Knights got one in their half of the sixth to set up the drama in the seventh.

Mid-Prairie took advantage of a lack of control from closer Aaron Woodward who walked three straight batters to open the frame. From there Mid-Prairie got an RBI ground out from Karson Gingerich, and the Knights continued to implode allowing Mid-Prairie to tie the game and then score four more times in the eighth with RBI from Nielsen and Karson Gingerich.

Karson Gingerich ended the game going three for four with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Ashton Bush closed out the Mid-Prairie victory pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.

With the win Mid-Prairie is now 4-0 on the year and will be in action Thursday when they host Monticello.
