A “flash fundraiser” is happening this week for the Lone Tree Community School District.

On the district’s website they are encouraging people to donate funds for the proposed wellness center that will be shared between the district and the community. This fundraiser is to show the Enhance Iowa board there is community support for the project. The district applied for a $300,000 grant from Enhance Iowa. Superintendent Michael Reeves explains the grant, “One of the stipulations or requests would be that they need to do more local fundraising for that project.” Reeves says the district’s hoping to receive 30 $1,000 donations.

The project is funded in part by a $2.5 million bond that was passed last fall, a $10,000 grant from Wellmark, and $10,000 from Eastern Iowa REC. An additional $250,000 was secured both from the district and the City of Lone Tree, emphasizing the shared use intention of the center. Neumann Monson Architects designed the center, and McComas-Lacina Construction secured the bid for the building. The online flash fundraiser continues through May 7.
