A food pantry on wheels full of dry and cold goods will roll into Washington Thursday afternoon.

The mobile food pantry is part of the HACAP Food Reservoir and is looking to fight hunger locally. Administrator of Washington County Public Health Danielle Pettit-Majewski says it’s a chance for people to pick out items to have in their kitchens, based on preferences. There will be fruits, vegetables, dairy items and grains. Depending on the quantity of food and number of people, attendees may be able to select a second time. Some intake information will be gathered so the organization can prove to the USDA that the food is going to the homes of individuals and families.
Pettit-Majewski adds hunger is something that is very real for many residents in Washington County, “Typically we see about one in five people who are hungry. It’s usually one in four children, and one in five people overall. So it is still a barrier that we face, and that we face across the state and across the nation.”

The mobile food pantry will be at the United Presbyterian Church parking lot from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, or while supplies last. It will also stop in Brighton Thursday morning.
