The Washington Demon boys soccer team battled back twice Thursday against Mount Pleasant but in extra time it was the Panthers who found the golden goal for a 3-2 win.

Mount Pleasant got on the board first, scoring the only tally of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Washington found the equalizer 10 minutes into the second half when Tony Torres beat the Panthers to the net to even the game at one. Mount Pleasant regained the lead on a penalty kick for a take down in the box, taking a 2-1 advantage. Washington would rally again with good defensive pressure and offensive possession, tying the game on an Andres Gutierrez goal and that’s where the match would stand at the end of regulation.

The Demons and Panthers stayed at a stalemate through the first 10 minute segment of extra time and nine and a half minutes of the second extra stanza before a handball in the box resulted in a Panther penalty kick and the game winning goal with no time remaining in the contest. Thomas Zimmer had eight saves in goal for the Demons. With the loss, Washington is now 5-6 on the year and will next be in action Tuesday when they host Highland.
