The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team saw their season come to a close Wednesday in the semifinal round of the Class 2A Substate tournament falling to No. 4 Cedar Rapids Xavier 8-1 on the road.

Xavier found the back of the net in the first 90 seconds of the contest to go up 1-0. The Saints doubled their lead six minutes later. Xavier would add two more goals below the halftime horn to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Xavier continued their blitz in the second half, scoring first out of the break to go up 5-0. Mid-Prairie got on the board in the 50th minute when Ricky Vargas beat the Saints defense to make it 5-1. Xavier scored three more times over the final 30 minutes to close out the win. The Golden Hawks wrap up their season at 7-6. Xavier advances to the Substate final Saturday where they will battle Mount Pleasant for a berth at the State Tournament.
