46 grants were awarded by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation at their Spring 2017 reception May 17.

Severe weather couldn’t keep the Washington County Riverboat Foundation from presenting their Spring 2017 grants Wednesday night.

The foundation board had their regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Casino and during the following reception a severe thunderstorm and tornado warning forced the meeting attendees to seek shelter in the events center hallway for a half hour. The awards reception commenced a few minutes after 7 p.m. with President David Mitchell joking about giving a speech 20 minutes shorter than planned.

The board gave out nine municipal grants worth $823,600 and 37 competitive grants worth $809,157 for a total of $1,632,757. The City of Washington received the largest municipal grant of $438,000. Lone Tree Community Schools received the largest competitive grant of $200,000 for their wellness center project. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation Board has now given a total of 1,129 grants for a total of $40,320,515 since fall 2006.
