Two girls go missing in Iowa, that’s the plot of the All Iowa Reads book for this summer.

Washington Public Library Director Debbie Stanton explains the program is statewide with public libraries all receiving the book that has an Iowa connection. This year’s selection is Bottomland by Michelle Hoover and it’s set in Iowa. The story focuses on a German family living in Iowa after WWI when two girls disappear. Stanton says the book is a mystery, “It talks a lot about the way the communities dealt with German settlers in the area, especially with the war going on, and how communities can overcome feelings of prejudice in times of need.”

The Washington Public Library will receive nearly 20 copies of the book, including large print and audio CDs, and a few copies are already at the library ready to be checked out. On June 25th at 2 p.m. at the library, a discussion about the book will be held for those who read the novel.
