Utility rates increasing in the City of Washington will be considered at Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting.

The third and final reading of the proposed ordinance will be held. The base rate will be $17.85 for water and $3.84 per 100 cubic feet of usage in the city. Sewer rates will be $31.50 per month per unit, plus $3.83 per 100 cubic feet of water used. Solid waste collection will be $7.35 per month per residence, stickers will be $2 and annual stickers are $90. The council will also consider amending the fireworks section of the code since the governor signed a law legalizing the sale and use of fireworks in Iowa earlier this year. Also on the agenda is an urban chicken request, a downtown incentive grant program, and Chapter 55 of the code in regards to animal control and protection. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Washington Public Library.
