Washington and Highland Girls Kick Off State Track on Thursday

Members of the Washington and Highland girls’ track teams will compete on opening day for the state meet in Des Moines today.

The Demons’ Hannah Anderson will compete in two of her three qualifying events today including the 100m dash. The freshman’s best time of 12.47 seconds is the sixth best time in 3A out of the 24 members participating. She is also competing in the 200m dash where she was able to qualify with a best time of 25.65 seconds, fourth in the state.

Emily Yahnke who has two events herself today including the 100m and long jump anchors the Huskies in class 2A. Her 100m time of 13.23 seconds and leap of 16’8’’ were fourth in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Kelsey Hora will also compete for Highland today in the 400m dash. Her qualifying time of 1:01.53 is first in the conference.
