An art installation in Washington is going to the dogs, literally.

Water softener tubes will be transformed into animals this summer for an art project in Washington. The LET’s Center for the Creative and Healing Arts is partnering with PAWS and More to raise funds through this art campaign. Participants can purchase a blank canvass tube at LET’s or Dodici’s Shop for $10 and return it by July 7th. Isabella Santoro with LET’s says it’s a way to reuse and beautify a common object, that would otherwise likely end up in a landfill. Anyone who purchases a tube can paint it, and decorate it in any fashion they please going along with the animal theme.

This is the third year for the totally tubular transformation project. Santoro says it’s been nice to work with the animal shelter, “They’ve sold several tubes and spread the word. And I know they’re in need of a new dog room, which is going to be pretty pricey. So we’re hoping this will help them out.” The tubes will be on display July 14th – 21st. The masterpieces will then be auctioned off July 29th with a portion of the proceeds going to PAWS.
