Those wanting new flowers from the Washington County Master Gardeners should expect to show up early this Saturday.

The Master Gardeners will be having their annual plant sale at the Washington County Fairgrounds at the Palmer Polygonal Barn. Master Gardener President Don Pfeiffer explains the event, “The plants that the master gardeners have for sale are actually from their own gardens in many cases or friends’ gardens, in which they have perennial plants. Perennial plants of course keep growing, and so one way to reduce that is you divide those perennial plants this time of year and they offer them for sale through the master gardeners at the fairgrounds on Saturday the 13th.”

The sale begins at 8 a.m. and ends when the gardeners run out of plants, which Pfeiffer expects to be by noon. Pfeiffer says where the profits of the sale will go, “We’ve got two main sources, we’ve been offering a $500 scholarship to any Washington resident who is continuing to college in the horticulture field. The other thing is we maintain some different gardens at the fairgrounds and we use that to add to that or enhance those plants as we go from year to year.” The plants will be on sale for as little as a dollar. Pfeiffer also encourages anyone to become a master gardener. Registration is available now with training happening in September.
