Washington County is in the minority; it’s one of 26 of Iowa’s 99 counties to see a population increase from 2010 to 2016.

According to the State Data Center, during that time Washington County’s population increased 2.7% to 22,281 people. That 2.7% uptick is the equivalent of 577 people. The City of Washington grew by 161 and Kalona grew by 160. Johnson County grew by 12% and Jefferson County went up to 18,090, an increase of 7.4%. Iowa, Keokuk, Henry, and Louisa Counties all saw decreases.
