With a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved purchasing a special container to hold ashes at the county recycling and waste center.

The total cost of the container is $4,517, which will be split in half between the county and WEMIGA, who manages the facility. There are concerns of ashes being brought in with garbage and possible embers catching fire, Supervisor Chairman Richard Young said there was also worry of a truck catching fire when transporting garbage to the landfill. The container will be ordered. Once it is full, WEMIGA will take it to the landfill and the county will pay for the tipping fee.
