The first look at this year’s Demon softball team starts tonight as they host Anamosa for the season opener.

A lot of excitement hovers around the softball team as they bring a young, yet experienced group into the 2017 campaign. Despite only having five upperclassmen, the Demons return their entire infield and two of their top pitchers from a season that had a record of 13-25. The lone senior, Jessie Bucholz leads the Demon charge offensively as she was the top hitter last season with a .354 batting average. Sophomore Molly Sparks is the top returning pitcher where she looks to improve off her 4.52 ERA. Other notable returners for the Demons are Megan Mitchell with a .313 average, Morgan Brinning had a .306 average, and Alexa Mitchell was the number two pitcher with a 5.14 ERA.

Anamosa is coming off a 5-25 record in 2016 and lost two players to graduation.

The double header gets started at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Washington High School. Tune into KCII starting at 5 p.m. to listen to the broadcast.
