Registration has begun for the Wellman-Scofield Library youth summer reading program.

The program will be offering a variety of activities on Tuesdays through Fridays this summer, kicking off with a skating party on June 2, and ending with a picnic in the park on July 28. The program will include guest speakers including the Washington County Deputy Sheriff and search dog and the Grout Museum. There will be crafts such as making lap quilts for the nursing home, and Library Director Carol Wilkins describes plans to eat a rainbow, “Last year the Extension came and gave a talk on healthy eating, and the kids really enjoyed that so we’re going to kind of expand on that. I bought some books and we’re going to expand on the healthy eating. And we’re just going to buy fruit, all different colors of the rainbow, and we’ll talk about getting healthy snacks, and then we’re going to give a skewer and let them make a rainbow, and then they get to eat it.”

The program will keep track of the number of minutes kids read, and towards the end of the program the kids will be able to turn in their minutes for a prize. Registration for the Wellman-Scofield summer reading program won’t end, so kids can join at anytime. The only catch is the later you register, the less chance you have for reading minutes and prizes.
