Next year Wellman residents will be seeing new improvements to one of their parks.

North Park is the largest park in Wellman and is home to baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, shelter areas, and the Wellman Band Shell. Mayor Ryan Miller details an upcoming renovation project for the park, “We have three shelters at North Park, our main park in town. And they were built when the park was first founded in 1970. So this is just to remodel those, replace some of the rotted wood underneath with some metal posts, repaint, and just spruce those up. Along with the bandshell that we use for the Fourth of July and some different events there at the park. So this is to redo the bandshell and get it back into shape, I believe in 1979 that was put in there. It just needs some TLC for some of that stuff, so we’re really looking forward to it. We unfortunately won’t be able to do it before the Fourth of July this year, but we didn’t want to get the park all torn up before that. But soon after that we’ll be starting on the project and get those done before the end of the summer.”

This project was funded in part by a grant of $42,938 from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
