The Columbus and Highland boys and girls track teams were in action Thursday night at Tipton High School in the class 2A state qualifier.

In boys results Columbus finished 10th in the team race with 35 points. Northeast Goose Lake won the event with 114 points. The Wildcats had two automatic qualifier events Thursday with Ruben Paz finishing second in the 100m dash with his time of 11.99 seconds and Abel Mena second in the 400 hurdles in 58.01 seconds.

The Highland boys were 11th of 12 teams with 13 points.

The Highland girls were eighth in the team race with 47.5 points. North Cedar won the meet with 148 points. The Huskies had two events automatically qualify for state. Emily Yahnkee was second in the 100 with her time of 13.21 seconds and the Huskies 4×100 relay team finished second in 52.50 seconds.

The Columbus girls finished 10th out of 12 teams with 32 points. The Wildcats Shania Boyd was a two time automatic qualifier to the state meet, taking second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.49 seconds and second in the long jump at 16’5.5”.

Performance qualifiers for the state meet will be announced during the day on Friday. Stay tuned to KCII sports for a full list of state qualifiers. The state meet will be held next week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
