The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys soccer team will begin their quest to return to the state tournament tonight when they open the class 1A substate tournament at Central Lee.

The Wildcats enter play with a 9-5 overall record. In their last match they fell in the championship game of the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament to Iowa Mennonite School 3-2. On the year Columbus is led by Eric Cantarero who lead the Superconference and is sixth in the state with 19 goals scored. He also has the team lead and is second in the conference with eight assists. In goal, Brayan Camargo has made 54 saves.

Central Lee enters the tournament with a 3-13 overall record. In their last match they were beaten at Mount Pleasant by a 7-0 score. On the season the Hawks are led by Blake Wyrick with seven goals. Logan Sanders leads the Hawks with three assists. In goal, Lauren Hulsebus leads the Superconference and is 10th in the state with 133 saves.

These two teams met on April 11th with Columbus taking a 2-0 win. Action begins tonight at 6:30 in Donnellson.
