A woman was taken to the hospital following a dog bite in rural Riverside Thursday.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, a 61-year-old woman was out walking and was bit by a dog described as a pitbull. It happened at 1:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Tupelo Boulevard. The woman’s arm was injured and she was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital. Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider tells KCII News charges are still pending while authorities still work on the case. A sheriff’s deputy took the dog to a residence in Riverside, it was then transported by PAWS and More to a veterinarian’s office for hold. Charges are pending on allowing dog to run at large. Names of those involved were not released.
