“Hero Central” Vacation Bible School

Description: The Washington United Presbyterian Church will have their “Hero Central” Vacation Bible School from July 30th through August 3rd. All 4 year olds through 5th graders are invited to register. There will be games, music, crafts, science projects, and story time. Supper will be served each evening at 5:30 pm.

Description: The Southeast Iowa Acoustic/Folk Music Club will be performing at the Washington Central Park Bandshell, as part of the Thursday Night Live free summer concert series. The Southeast Iowa Acoustic/Folk Music Club will be performing with musicians of all styles, ages, and ability levels. Thursday NIght Live is taking place from 6:30-7:30 pm on Thursday July 6.

Alive After 5

Description: The Washington Chamber of Commerce asks you to join them for a “specTUBULAR” time at their “Alive After 5” event at the LET’s Center from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 11. Come check out the classes they have to offer as well as the Totally Tubular project for this year. Light refreshments will be served. Tubes will be on display around the square July 17-29 and then auctioned off on July 29. All proceeds go to the LET’s Center and Paws & More Animal Shelter.

Heritage Days Festival

Description: Mount Vernon’s 30th Annual Heritage Days Festival will take place July 6th through the 8th in and around uptown Mount Vernon. With a parade theme of “Star Wars”, this year’s festivities will include fireworks, old-fashioned carnival games, as well as live performances, bingo, a beer tent, and “mini Olympics for kids”. Description: Louisa County Conservation is hosting Honey Bee Basics from 10-11 am on Saturday, July 22 at the Port Louisa Refuge Headquarters. Carly Vannoy, Iowa’s Honey Queen will be sharing her knowledge of these specialized and important pollinators. This event is free and open to the public.

Full Moon Float

Description: Louisa County Conservation is hosting a Full Moon Float at the Odessa Water Trail – Snively Campground from 8 to 11 pm on Saturday July 8th. By the light of the moon we will explore Odessa. Registration is required. Canoes are available for $20 and kayaks for $15. You can bring your own boat for $5.

Family Day on the Ropes Course

Description: Louisa County Conservation is hosting Family Day on the Ropes Course at the Langwood Education Center from 9 am to noon and 5 to 8 pm on Thursday July 6. This is your chance to experience the Langwood Challenge Course. Participants must be at least 8 years old. Cost is $10 per person or $30 per family. Pre-registration is required.

Description: The Brighton First Church of God is having their “Fixer Upper” Vacation Bible School from July 31st to August 4th, from 5-8 pm. The vacation bible school is offered to children ages four to those who have just finished 5th grade. A light meal will be served to the children at 5 pm. 4-H Communications Night

Description: Washington County 4-H’ers will participate in Communications Night on Wednesday, July 12 in Dallmeyer Hall at the fairgrounds. All Washington County 4-H’ers are eligible to participate in Educational Presentations. Communications NIght is open to the public to come listen, learn about a wide variety of topics, and applaud the youth of our communities and their communication goals. The public is welcome to come and enjoy from 2-8 pm on July 12.

Description: The Washington County Extension Office is holding a 4-H Photo Mounting Day on Tuesday, July 11 from 9 am to 2 pm at the Washington County Extension Office on the fairgrounds. Photo Mounting Day is open to all washington County 4-H’ers who want to prepare their photography exhibits for fair. Materials will be available for purchase that day. All 4-H photography exhibits must be pre-registered through Fair Entry by July 12.

It will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Kalona United Methodist Church located at 4th Street and C Avenue. The dates and hours are Friday, July 21 from 1-6 pm and Saturday, July 22 from 9 am – noon. Used clothing, shoes, coats, and linens will be available to families needing assistance with these items.

Iowa Corn Growers Association Roundtable

Title: Iowa Corn Growers Association Roundtable
Location: Fairfield, IA
Description: Policy development at the Iowa Corn Growers Association is a grassroots process. Each year Iowa Corn hosts roundtable meetings in local communities across the state to gather input and feedback from growers. The meetings allow ICGA members to come together, share a meal, and discuss key issues impacting corn farmers. Policies brought forward and approved at roundtable meetings go on the Annual ICGA Grassroots Summit on August 26 for the ICGA delegates to debate. Fairfield will be hosting a roundtable meeting at the Heartland Co-op Board Room from 11:30 am to 2 pm on July 6. Roundtables are free for ICGA members but registration is encouraged.

Pesticide Testing

Description: The Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship (IDALS) will offer pesticide testing on Friday, July 14 at the Washington County Extension office from 10 am to 2 pm. All tests are available at this site and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. IDALS offers testing monthly at Washington County Extension, April through December.
