Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong is wrapping up his decade-long tenure this week.

His last school board meeting as superintendent was on June 12. Armstrong comments on his time at Highland, “It’s been a very productive 10 years, I’ve enjoyed my tenure as superintendent at the Highland School District. Many great supportive families in the district, with an eye for the education that their students are receiving.”

Armstrong reflects on the good changes in the past decade, such as the implementation of a weekly early dismissal for teacher professional development and the $4.3 million dollar expansion of the middle and high school. Armstrong also reflects on the challenging times, “Over the last couple years we’ve had to make some difficult decisions, the closing of Ainsworth, etc. and so forth. Had a lot of good community input. It was evident that there’s a lot of passion in the community for Highland schools.”

In his last few weeks he’s been working on different projects such as filling in vacant teaching positions, seeking bids for the new middle school boilers, and finalizing school policies to be read at the next board meeting on July 10. Armstrong says he has no current plans to return to an education administrative position in the future, but to never say never.
