From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is being read aloud in downtown Washington this week.

John Hartmann is the Washington County Captain and he says it’s part of the Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon. He explains this is the second year of the event, “This is a continuation of what we did last year, we did the same thing actually. We read through the entire Bible and read it out into the air, into the atmosphere, because that’s how the authorization to change so to speak comes about for the Bible.” He adds, “It’s putting God’s word back out into the air, which we have been good at covering up.” Those reading can be found on the bandstand in Washington’s Central Park.

They began reading Monday morning and plan to wrap up tonight. He explains how it takes approximately 80 hours to read the Bible and last year in Washington it took volunteers about 86 hours. The public is welcome to join in throughout the day, and multiple people can be reading different passages at the same time.
