A train came to a stop in Fairfield late Monday night after they had hit something and were trying to determine what it was.

According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, the Burlington Northern Sante Fe train had struck a person on the tracks at approximately 11 p.m. The medical examiner was called to the scene east of the 2nd Street overpass and determined the person was deceased. The name of the person has not been released. Officers from the Fairfield Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and KCII will bring more information as it becomes official.
