The Columbus Community girls’ soccer season came to a close Friday night after being defeated by Fairfield 5-0 in a 1A regional quarterfinal matchup.

After defeating Mid-Prairie 3-2 on Tuesday, the Wildcats knew they were going to be in for another battle against the second seeded Trojans. Columbus hung tough for a while but the offensive firepower of Fairfield was too much to stop. The second leading scorer in class 2A Emma Rosner led the way with a pair of goals for the Trojans.

Columbus finished their season with a record of 4-9 as Fairfield improved to 14-3 and advance to the semifinal round playing Davenport Assumption on Monday. After losing their first six games, Columbus rebounded nicely and finishing the season winning four of their last six. The Wildcats lose three players to graduation including their leading scorer in Bailey Stroud. Liana Sweezer will be a top returner for the Wildcats as she led the Southeast Iowa Super Conference in saves this season.
