The Washington County Historical Society is making cost-effective improvements on the Conger House Museum.

The organization received a $16,000 grant for improvements on the house’s windows and doors. Washington County Historical Society Treasurer Mary Levy describes the improvement project, “The building is a historic building from the mid-1800s, and the windows are the original windows and the original doors. So obviously windows that old leak a lot of cold and hot air in the summer and winter. And we were just trying to tighten the house up and lower our heating bills.”

The project includes installing new storm windows, insulating window casings, and to do any window repairs and painting as needed. They intend not to replace any of the windows and doors in the house to remain true to the museum’s historical integrity. Levy anticipates the project to be complete by October.
