On Strikeout Cancer night, the Washington baseball team downed Mid-Prairie 8-1 in an area showdown on Tuesday night.

The Demons put the pressure on the Golden Hawks early plating a pair of runs in the first inning on a RBI groundout by Zach Londberg and RBI single by Aaron Vittetoe. The Demons tacked on one more run in the fourth and gave their lead some cushion with two runs in the fifth thanks to a two RBI single by Luke Turner to make it 5-0. The Golden Hawks did get on the board in the final frame with a RBI groundout by Karson Gingerich but it was not enough as the Demons cruised to the 8-1 win. Michael Gier was red hot at the plate going 4-for-5 with one RBI. Jacob Hall was a workhorse on the bump going 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and giving up no runs. Braden Nielson led the Golden Hawks offensively going 1-for-1 with three walks.

For the annual Strikeout Cancer night all proceeds from the game went to Relay for Life and every player for both teams played for someone who has been affected by cancer.

With the win the Demons improve to 9-5 on the season as the Golden Hawks fell to 8-8. Both teams get back in action tomorrow night when the Golden Hawks host Camanche and the Demons entertain Fort Madison.
