So far this year 11 children in the U.S. have died from heatstroke after being left in a car, according to San Jose State University.

The Washington Police Department is reminding people to doublecheck their backseats and never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, Officer Ron See says, “Even with windows rolled down, it’s just too hot this time of year to leave anyone inside an un-running car.” Studies show after 10 minutes the temperature inside a vehicle can increase by as much as 19 degrees. See says if you witness a child unattended in a vehicle call 911 so authorities can arrive on seen as quickly as possible to remove the child from the heat. See adds this is something that happens locally. Earlier this month a woman was cited for child endangerment when an infant was left in a parked car in Washington. Temperatures are expected to see highs in the 90’s every day this week.
