The Highland baseball and softball teams look primed for a postseason push as they each took care of business against Central Lee on Tuesday.

In baseball, after Central Lee jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, the Huskies roared back and scored six unanswered runs to seize control of the game and cruised to the 7-4 win. Chase Rath had another productive day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a RBI and one run scored. Garret Colbert added three hits including a double with a RBI. Caleb Brase went five innings giving up four runs on six hits. Rath and Bill Burton shut the door on the Hawks with a combined two innings of one hit ball. With the win the Huskies improve to 16-4 as the Hawks drop to 9-10.

For the softball team, the Huskies were able to hang on to a big lead early to capture the exciting 10-9 win. The Huskies wasted no time offensively by breaking out for five runs in the first inning. After both teams traded runs the Huskies took a 7-3 lead into the sixth when the Huskies added three more for a comfortable seven-run cushion. The Hawks would not go away though as they managed four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Huskies hung on for the victory. Megan Hoenig went seven innings in the circle giving up six earned runs and recording five strikeouts. Abbie Miller had a big day at the plate going 4-for-5 with three RBI. With the win the Huskies improve to 18-5 on the year as Central Lee drops to 14-16.

Both teams get back on the diamond tonight when they travel to Wapello.
