At a cost of $66,110 soil contaminated by lead paint will be removed from the former site of a water tower in Washington.

DeLong Construction was awarded the bid by the city council for soil remediation. In 2015, a lead paint inspection was conducted on the old north tower and no lead paint was found on the tank itself, but it was found to be contaminating the soil below it. According to City Administrator Brent Hinson, this was a result of past sandblasting of paint on the tower. The initial estimate for the cost of remediation was over $100,000.
