The Keota City Council held a special meeting June 23.

The meeting was held to discuss the city clerk position. City Clerk Niki Osweiler informed the council she had accepted another job. The council inquired about the compensation and benefits from the offered position and they discussed how they could offer better compensation for Osweiler. Osweiler said that the only way to do that would be to take it away from other departments and there are too many unknowns for the future if that would be a viable resource. The council, Mayor Anthony Cansler, and city employee Kevin Slaubaugh expressed how valuable Osweiler is, but didn’t give any more incentive for her to stay. Osweiler submitted her letter of resignation effective July 14. Osweiler will help with the transition period with the hiring and training of a new city clerk. The council put a closed session to discuss the hiring for this position on the agenda for their meeting July 3.
