Despite holding leads in both ends of their softball doubleheader Monday at Iowa City Regina High School, Mid-Prairie came up empty in the win column, falling to the No. 6 ranked Regals 4-3 in nine innings in game one and 15-8 in game two.

Regina got on the board first in the opener with a run in the third. Mid-Prairie answered in the top of the fourth when Katherine Conway blasted a solo homer to tie the game. The Hawks jumped ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Tayler Murphy’s sac fly drove in Jaselyn Robertson. Regina answered with a single run in the fifth to tie the game once more. Things stayed tied into extra innings where the Hawks pushed across one in the eighth when Clarice Murphy doubled in Caitlyn Riggan but Regina found the answer in the bottom of the eighth with a single run and the Regals won in the ninth when Maeve Dunn drove in Bella Nibaur.

In game two, the Golden Hawks scored three times in their first two at bats, taking a 6-0 lead and chasing Regina ace Sarah Lehman from the game after just an inning and two thirds. Abby Tornow had an RBI in the rally, Conway blasted a two run homer with Riggan, Tornow, Conway and Tayler Murphy all scoring runs. Regina chipped away to get within 6-4 going to the fourth but Mid-Prairie answered again with two more runs on a Conway single to go up 8-4. From there the Regals scored 11 unanswered against Golden Hawk pitching to run away with the win.

On the night the Hawks were led by Conway at the plate who was four for eight with a pair of homers and six RBI. Cassidy Rourke threw 14 2/3 innings on the night, taking the loss in game one. Mid-Prairie is now 6-10 on the year, while Regina improves to 12-5.
