Pull out the spandex and capes, it’s time to suit up for the 107th Annual Brighton Whoopee Days.

This year’s theme is the “Power of Whoopee,” and participants are encouraged to dress up as superheroes. Is baking your super power? Chamber member Nancy Adrian has an opportunity for you, “This year we have a ‘Best Darn Cookie Contest’ Saturday at 3 o’clock, so anyone is welcome to bring their favorite cookie recipes and then that will be judged. And so I’m really excited to taste all the different cookies so I can vote in the people’s choice award.” Spectators of the cookie contest will get to sample all the competing cookies and vote for their favorite.

Whoopee Days will be a musical weekend, as American Idol contestant Michael Powers and local group Aces & Eights will perform Saturday night. Longtime Brighton residents Steve and Rose Jaynes will serve as Grand Marshals for the festival, taking place from June 15-18. Catch the Big Red Radio as it’s broadcasting live from Whoopee Days on Saturday as part of the KCII Summer Town Tour.
