Most of the topsoil in southeast Iowa is short on moisture.

According to this week’s Crop Progress and Condition Report from the USDA, in southeast Iowa 43% of topsoil has adequate moisture, 44% is short and 12% is very short. The state as a whole has topsoil moisture currently at 59% adequate and 40% short to very short. In regards to subsoil moisture, southeast Iowa is 72% adequate and 27% short to very short, slightly below where the state is overall. Last week, dry conditions were reported across the state with some crops showing signs of stress.
