The Iowa State Patrol is reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up in vehicles.

Last weekend there were five fatalities on Iowa roads, and so far this year there have been 132 fatalities. That is an 18% decrease from this time last year, and a seven percent drop from the five-year average. Of the traffic fatalities, at least 40% were not wearing seat belts. Also, so far this year there have been 13 motorcycle fatalities in the state, five of which were wearing helmets.
