After the Columbus Community softball team merged with WACO this season to form one team, this pushed the Wildcats to compete in the class 3A playoff pairings in the upcoming postseason.

After originally being slated in the class 2A playoff pairings, the move caused shuffling of some teams including Dyersville Beckman Catholic to drop down to 2A. The playoff pairings that were recently released by the IGHSAU now has the Wildcats set to travel to Mount Vernon to play the Mustangs in the first round of the class 3A Region 5 playoffs. Other teams in the Wildcats’ region are Union, East Marshall, Vinton-Shellsburg, and South Tama. The Wildcats are coming off of their first win of the season last week when they defeated Lone Tree 3-1 in an area showdown.

Columbus is preparing for their final week of the regular season this week as they get it started on Tuesday when they travel to Davenport Central (5-15).
