A grant extension request from the YMCA to the Washington Country Riverboat Foundation was withdrawn Wednesday night.

The $3.5 million grant, the largest in the foundation’s history, was awarded in November of 2015. With the current arrangements, if ground is not broken on a new YMCA by December 1st, the grant will expire. The YMCA presented at the WCRF meeting Wednesday. YMCA CFO and interim CEO Amy Schulte tells KCII News they decided to withdrawn the extension request at this time because the project has changed since the initial proposal and the YMCA board will discuss the next steps at their meeting Monday. The original YMCA proposal included a pool, but earlier this spring the YMCA announced new designs in three phases. The first phase costs $9 million, and the six-lane pool would be in the second phase of the project with a price tag of $3.5 million.

Schulte says they’re making progress in fundraising, since April they’ve raised an additional $93,880 from four donors. The current total pledged amount from private donations is $2,610,325.
