Ten girls from Riverside and Lone Tree are headed south this weekend as the 10 and under softball team travels to the 2017 Babe Ruth Softball World Series in Jensen Beach, Florida, to represent the state of Iowa.

The team consists of the top performing all-star players from four local softball teams under the Tri-County Babe Ruth charter. The series will run from July 28th – August 4th and the ladies clinched their spot in the event when they won the state tournament back in June. A couple weeks ago they were also in action at the Midwest regionals where they placed third playing against teams from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado.

To help pay for the expenses to travel to the World Series the team has offered many fundraising opportunities including car washes, making t-shirts, and hosting a dinner. There is a GoFundMe page where people can donate. Coach of the team Chris Goerdt mentioned “This is a chance of a lifetime for these girls and we’ll do whatever we can to get them to Florida.”
