Thick, dark smoke could be seen billowing up near the intersection of West 5th and North D Avenue in Washington Monday evening, but the flames were planned.
The property was purchased by the YMCA for the future site of the new facility and a two-story house stood on the land. That two-story house was set on fire and demolished by the Washington Fire Department for training for the local firefighters. The road was blocked off and multiple firetrucks and a back hoe were on site to help safely extinguish the fire. For photos from the training event visit KCII Radio’s Facebook page.
