Good things come to those who wait.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team patiently waited an extra 24 hours, but on Wednesday were rewarded with a 6-2 win over West Burlington in the district semifinal round of the class 2A tournament. The game on Wednesday began in the bottom of the fourth inning with a Falcon runner on first and no one out with Mid-Prairie holding a 2-0 lead, serving as a continuation from Tuesday’s weather postponed contest.

Daniel Crooks was the first batter for West Burlington after the restart and he drove a long home run to right center field that tied the game at two. After the two run shot, the Falcons loaded the bases with no one out but Golden Hawk reliever Ashton Bush induced a fly ball and a 1-2-3 double play to get out of the inning with no further damage.

Things stayed tied at two until the sixth when the Hawks scored four times against Crooks. Jacob Leonard doubled to start the inning and Jared Miller singled behind him to drive in Ryan Miller from second base and give the Hawks the lead back at 3-2. Following a walk to Ashton Bush, Brad Tornow delivered a triple to left field scoring Jared and Peyton Miller to put the Golden Hawks up 5-2 and Tornow came home from third on a dropped third strike giving Mid-Prairie a 6-2 advantage.

That was all that Bush and the Golden Hawk defense would need. After his rocky start the sophomore settled in, at one point sitting down six in a row and finished the game and win in relief. Bush gloved the final out on an infield fly behind the mound.

Bush went three innings, gave up two hits, two runs, walked two and struck out a pair. At the plate, Mid-Prairie was led by Tornow with two hits, two driven in and a run scored. Jacob Leonard also added two hits. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 16-14 on the year and will next be in action Saturday at Iowa City Regina High School against the No. 9 ranked Regals who were 12-3 winners over Van Buren on Wednesday.
