Corn and soybeans in southeast Iowa are behind the five-year average.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey is hoping for the weather to change, he said, “Now during county fair season and corn pollination season, we hope for cooler weather and more agreeable conditions for livestock and crops.” In southeast Iowa, 12% of corn is silking, behind the five-year average of 20%. For soybeans locally 15% are blooming while the five-year average is 32%. Across Iowa corn is rated at 77% good to excellent and soybeans are rated at 31% fair and 55% good to excellent.
