The Washington Demon baseball team takes on No. 2 Davenport Assumption tonight for the class 3A district nine championship.

The Demons advanced through the first round of the postseason on Friday with an 8-2 win over the Williamsburg Raiders. Washington was led in the contest by Zach Londberg with two hits and 3RBI. Collin Zear got the win for the Demons going all seven, giving up just five hits and two runs. On the year Washington is 18-15. They are led by Ryan Loy with his .367 average at the plate. On the mound Zear is 6-2 with a 2.30 ERA to lead the team.

Davenport Assumption enters tonight ranked No. 2 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association with a 36-5 overall record. The Knights moved through the first round of the playoffs Friday beating West Liberty 11-1 in six innings. Ben Buetel and Luke Fennelly each drove in a pair to lead the Assumption offense. On the season the Knights are led by Fennelly who is hitting .437 on the year. Trent Wallace is best on the staff with a perfect 8-0 record. In 57 innings of work he has a microscopic 0.37 ERA.

The winner of tonight’s contest advances to the substate round of the playoffs Wednesday in Washington to face the winner of Fairfield and Keokuk.
