The Demon softball team’s run in the postseason came to a close on Saturday when they fell to Oskaloosa 7-1.

After both teams split pitcher’s duals between each other in the regular season, early on it looked like this game was going to be the same. After the Indians threatened with a couple runners on base in each of the first two innings, Demon pitcher Molly Sparks was able to hit her spots to get out of the jams unscathed. The Indians broke the scoreless tie in the third with a RBI single by Taylor Wills and then a double by Wills a couple innings later to tack on another run. Down 2-0 after five frames, the Indians showed why they are the defending state champions by breaking out for four runs in the sixth to break things open. The Demons got their lone run on a RBI groundout by Alexa Mitchell in the sixth inning but it was not enough as the Indians finished off the Demon season by capturing the 7-1 win. The Demons managed six hits off of star pitcher Alexis Groet. Brooke Stout led the Demons offensively going 2-for-2 with a walk. Molly Sparks finished her stellar sophomore campaign allowing seven runs on a pair of strikeouts in the circle.

With the win the Indians move to 28-12 on the year and advance to the regional final round. The Demons end a promising year with their first 20-win season since 2013 with a record of 21-18. Jessie Buchholz ends her storied Demon athletic career and is the only player who is lost to graduation.
