Playoff softball is in full swing as Washington (20-17) will look to keep their season alive tonight when they host Central DeWitt (10-29) in the class 4A region 5 opening round regional matchup.

Both teams are riding high coming into playoff time as they are coming off of a successful final week to the regular season. After a thrilling 2-1 walk-off win against Williamsburg on Friday, the Demons posted two more wins with a doubleheader sweep over Central Lee on Monday. Jessie Buchholz will look to keep her senior campaign going as she leads the team offensively with a .427 BA. Morgan Brinning continues to be productive, recording at least one hit in each of the last six contests. Washington will rely on Molly Sparks and Alexa Mitchell in the circle as they have a combined 3.62 ERA in all but three innings in the Demon season.

Central Dewitt (10-29) finished seventh out of eight teams in the WaMac East division. Despite their record, the Sabers have found their stride coming into the postseason sweeping a doubleheader against New London and Mid-Prairie to close out the regular season on Saturday. Sara Watson is a player to watch out for as she brings a .368 season batting average into the contest and nine RBI. If the Demon offense will gets things going they will have to go through Mya Cavanagh who has a 4.49 ERA on the year in 170 innings pitched.

The season is on the line starting at 7 p.m. tonight at Washington High School. KCII will be on the broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. for the Washington HyVee pregame show.
