Fall is right around the corner and that means another year of the Washington Area Soccer Program (WASP) is starting up and registration is now open.

WASP started in 2016 and provides soccer to youth in the area, aiming to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and skills. Participants are welcome from any area towns, and past players have come from Washington, Wellman, Ainsworth, Keota, and Wayland. Teams are co-ed with age divisions from four-years-old to high school seniors who are 19-years-old.  Registration costs $50 for the first player and $35 for each additional sibling entered. Four and five year-olds have practices and clinics throughout the season, while older athletes have practices and games. Practices are held Monday and Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. and start August 7th. Games are on Saturdays from September 9th to October 28th and they are located at rotating towns including Fairfield, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant.  The season concludes with a league tournament.

This will be the first season a high school team is offered. Players from across the area are invited to sign up.

Registration is at the city soccer fields on West 18th Street in person this Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. and Sunday from 3-5 p.m. or sign up at this week’s Washington Farmers’ Market Thursday. Forms can be found at waspiowa.org and they are due by midnight on Sunday.
