The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team saw their season come to an end Tuesday in the substate round of the class 1A playoffs, falling to the No. 1 ranked North Lynn Lynx 2-0 at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School.

In a game heard on KCII, it was a match up of aces with Drake Brezina on the mound for IMS and Jake Hilmer on the hill for North Linn. Brezina gave up a run in the first when Brad Phlughaupt walked with two down and was doubled home by Sean Boardman to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth when North Linn cashed in on an IMS error to double their lead to 2-0. With that advantage Hilmer closed the door on the IMS offense 1-2-3 in the seventh to secure the second trip to state in school history for the Lynx. IMS threatened to score twice, Cole Ours opened the game with a base hit and was stranded on third to end the first. In the sixth IMS got back to back two out hits from Brezina and Nick Yutzy but were unable to score.

Hilmer got the win for North Linn, he twirled a four hit complete game shut out. Brezina took the loss for IMS giving up five hits and two runs over six frames. With the win, North Linn returns to the state tournament with a record of 41-2. This is their second trip in school history, the last was 2015. IMS ends their season one game short of Des Moines with a 14-10 overall record. Six IMS seniors played their final game Tuesday including Brezina, Yutzy, Noah Bruns, Cole and Caleb Yoder and Cambridge Hathaway.
