Two area teams in Iowa Mennonite School (13-9) and Sigourney (15-7) will duke it out on the baseball diamond tonight in Keota with a class 1A district title on the line and one step closer to the ultimate goal of a state appearance.

Through two games into the postseason both of these teams have shown their offensive potential by putting up crooked numbers in multiple innings. In the opening round win against Tri-County on Tuesday, IMS broke out for nine runs in the first inning as they dominated in a slugfest 14-0. Sigourney showed their explosiveness on Thursday when they scored in each of the first four innings to rack up nine runs on HLV in their 9-7 semifinal win.

IMS punched their ticket to the title game after they were able to hold off BGM on Thursday to capture an exciting 4-3 win. Drake Brezina was terrific in that one, recording 13 strikeouts on six hits in five innings pitched. Pitching depth has been a strength of IMS all season, as they have four hurlers with a sub 3.0 ERA including Blake Bontrager with a stifling 1.3 ERA. Brezina leads the offense with a .390 BA and has shown some pop as of late, racking up a pair of home runs in the postseason.

The Savages are coming into the contest as one of the hottest teams in the state winning eight of their last nine contests. IMS pitching must be at its best tonight as the Savages have six batters with at least a .300 BA. Mac Conrad leads that group with a .507 BA. Conrad closed the game out on the bump for the Savages on Thursday going two innings giving up one run on no hits.

The area showdown will get started at 7 p.m. tonight at Keota High School. Tune into 106.1 FM and kciiradio.com to listen to the broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Washington HyVee pregame show.
